A Braille translation of the You Are Now Entering Free Derry message has been unveiled at the iconic Free Derry Corner Wall.

It was unveiled by Children in Crossfire charity founder Richard Moore who was blinded by a rubber bullet aged 10 in 1972.

The unveiling ceremony is part of this week’s programme of events commemorating the 51st anniversary of Bloody Sunday.

Mr Moore said that the braille translation of “You Are Now Entering Free Derry,” was part of the “Wall for All” campaign.

Mr Moore was left blinded at just ten years old after he was hit by a rubber bullet fired by a British soldier in 1972.

Thirteen people were shot dead when soldiers opened fire on marchers during a civil rights march in Derry on 30 January 1972.

It is widely regarded as one of the darkest days of the Troubles.

In 2007 Mr Moore met the soldier who shot him. He has since maintained a friendship with Charles Inness, who he has come to forgive.

The famous wall is the gable end of the now demolished terraced houses on the Lecky Road.

The slogan was painted on to the wall in Derry's Bogside on the night of January 5 1969.

The mural has been painted several times over the years to promote different causes and charities.

Mr Moore said he was very honoured to be a part of Bloody Sunday commemoration events.

His uncle Gerard McKinney was sadly killed on Bloody Sunday when he was shot as he tried to make his way to safety.
