Rory Farren from Dungiven has had a successful year on the track and is now looking forward to the season ahead.
Following a successful 2022, a County Derry schoolboy is gearing up to compete in numerous quad championships later this year.
Rory Farren, from Dungiven, is continuing to excel on the tracks having racked up three victories in recent months.
The ten year-old began on a quad bike at a young age and fell in love with the sport, going on to compete in his first race at Desertmartin MX Track just two days after his sixth birthday.
A pupil at Gaelscoil Neachtain in Dungiven, Rory went on to finish in second place in the 50cc class in the 2019 Ulster Championship.
Since then, the impressive young boy has appeared on the podium countless times.
The talented young racer had his most successful year to date last year winning three titles – 2022 Irish Quad Champion, 2022 Ulster Quad Champion and 2022 QRI Quad Champion.
Speaking about his son's achievements last year, proud dad Sean said: “In August, Rory won the Ulster championship and QRI championship and then on the 4th of September he won the Irish championship in Wexford. He also lead the UQRI championship but finished second in it due to a mechanical failure on the last race of the day.”
Competing in his class against between 18 and 22 riders, some aged 13 years-old, Rory has put his success down to hard work.
“Its brilliant to get the championships after trying so hard every year,” he told the County Derry Post.
With a successful year behind him, Rory now has his sights set on securing more silverware in the upcoming season.
Sean continued: “Rory is hoping to compete in the four championships again in 2023 starting with the Ulster RD 1 on the 18th of March and possibly do one or two rounds in England if all goes to plan.
“His mum Connie and I are both extremely proud of Rory and what he has achieved to date and with his determination and riding skills we have no doubt there will be many more visits to the podium in the coming seasons.”
If anyone, or any local business, would like to sponsor Rory for this season in any way, it would be greatly appreciated. Email stifrn@hotmail.com for more information.
