Fundraiser set up to bring Kevin Higgins home

Kevin Higgins, brother of Derry City manager, Ruaidhrí Higgins, sadly passed away this month

County Derry man Kevin Higgins passed away suddenly in Sweden on February 3. His family launched a fundraiser to help bring his remains back to Ireland and support the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.

With an initial target of £2000, the GoFund me page has already raised over £12,500.

There was an outpouring of grief at the sudden loss of 48 year old Kevin, brother to Derry City manager Ruaidhrí Higgins, Michael and Paddy.

Kevin's brother Michael, who set up a GoFund me page, said the family were extremely touched by the support and love from people far and wide.

He wrote: "We are creating this page in memory of our son and brother Kevin Higgins who died suddenly in Sweden.

"We have been so touched by the support and messages we have received from far and wide and offers of help.

"This page is to help raise money in aid of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust who are assisting us in bringing Kevin home and every donation will help."

The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust aims to alleviate the financial hardship of bereaved families repatriating the body (bodies) of loved one(s) who have died abroad in sudden or tragic circumstances back to Ireland.

Kevin will repose at the family home upon his return to Limavady, County Derry.

The family have kindly asked that people pay their respects at Kevin’s wake, dates of which will be confirmed in due course and will be updated here as soon as they become available.

Kevin is survived by his partner, Sonia and his two children, Caoimh and Ida.
