A 15-year-old girl has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with assaulting a female by allegedly kicking and punching her on the head 27 times.
The girl who cannot be named due to her age faces one charge of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent on February 15.
A police officer connected the accused to the charge and opposed bail.
The court heard that police were called by ambulance staff at around 1.30am due to a female being assaulted in Waterloo Street.
Police spoke to the alleged victim who told them 'she had been kicked and punched numerous times to the head by a female known to her.'
The woman was complaining of being dizzy and she appeared to have a black eye.
The court heard that the woman was taken to A&E and remained there for the rest of the night.
The connecting officer said he personally had viewed the CCTV of the incident which shows the alleged injured party pushing the defendant's boyfriend.
The defendant then was seen to punch the other woman to the ground and then punch and kick her 27 times to the head.
The officer said that the 15-year-old kicked the woman on the ground then walked away before returning and kicking her again.
The court heard that at no point does the girl check on the condition of the female on the ground.
At interview the defendant showed no remorse and refused to answer any questions.
The officer said that when the CCTV was shown to her she said 'she should not have reached for my boyfriend.'
Bail was opposed due to the fact that it was 'a sustained attack' and the defendant presented a danger to the public.
The officer also said that the fact that a 15-year-old was out drunk at 1.30am meant she was a danger to herself.
Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said it was 'a serious charge' but in his experience these charges rarely went the distance.
He said his client had a limited record.
Deputy District Judge Philip Mateer said that the alleged victim was 'defenceless on the ground' while subjected to this attack.
He refused bail and remanded the girl in custody to appear again on March 7.
