A man has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with assaulting his former partner and breaching a non molestation order on two occasions.
Robert Nelson (51) of Milltown View in Drumahoe appeared charged with assaulting a female on February 18 with the offence being aggravated by domestic abuse.
He is also charged with breaching a non molestation order on the same date.
Nelson was also charged with similar offences dating from December 26.
The court heard that police were called to a report of an assault on a female.
She told them that her former partner, Nelson, had turned up at her address and gained access.
She said he had assaulted her by punching her on the side of the head.
The defendant then left and while police were present he returned and was arrested.
Police were then told of a similar incident that was said to have occurred on December 26 last.
Defence solicitor Don Mahoney told the court that while there were valid concerns in the case he believed that the defendant could be managed with conditions including an address outside of the city.
Deputy District Judge Alan White said not only was the defendant in breach of non molestation orders he was also in breach of suspended sentences.
He said he had no confidence he would not commit further offences.
He refused bail and Nelson was remanded in custody to appear again on March 20.
