A Derry man has been fined £850 and disqualified from driving for 3 years for a series of driving offences.
Ciaran McEleney (34) of Southway in Derry admitted a series of charges that occurred on August 1 2022.
The court heard that police were called to a report of a collision on Shipquay Street where a car had collided with another vehicle and driven away.
Witnesses said that they believed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
Police traced the last registered owner of the vehicle and found the defendant at the address and he appeared to be under the influence.
A breath test revealed a reading of 78mgs and the registered owner, the defendant's partner, said she had not given him permission to drive.
McEleney was also found not to have a driving licence or insurance.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said his client had intended to park the car up the town and get a taxi home.
He said that didn't happen and this incident occurred.
The solicitor said that his client did not have the worst record.
District Judge Barney McElholm said that this was McEleney's fifth no insurance and he fined him a total of £850, disqualified him for three years and ordered him to pay £300 in compensation to the other car owner.
