Slaughtneil man joins Sinn Féin candidates in Carntogher

First-time Sinn Féin election candidate, Paddy Kelly was joined by Michelle O’Neill when he handed in his nomination papers, joining councillors Córa Corry, Sean McPeake and Brian McGuigan as his party’s four candidates in Carntogher district electoral area, in upcoming elections to Mid-Ulster District Council.

Announcing Paddy Kelly’s candidature via social media, Cllr. Brian McGuigan stated: “Paddy is a lifelong republican from Slaughtneil, who has been involved in electoral politics from his early youth, having first canvassed in South Derry in 1981.

“As a full-time sheep farmer, Paddy has a clear understanding of the issues facing rural communities, particularly after our removal from the European Union, in the aftermath of Brexit, and all the implications this has for local farm families and food producers.

“Paddy, a member of Slaughtneil GAC, will work to deliver better services for all residents across Carntogher DEA, and for the protection and promotion of our Irish Language and heritage coming as he does from an area steeped in Gaelic games and culture.”

Cllr. McGuigan concluded his comments by referencing his party’s determination to further build political strength across County Derry in pursuance of Irish republican objectives - Community, Solidarity, Equality, Prosperity, Irish Freedom and Independence.
