News of almost £3m in funding for a new Peace Process Museum in Derry has been welcomed by The Martin McGuinness Peace Foundation.
This transformative cultural project, which will form an extension of the Gasyard Centre, will chronicle the evolution of the conflict from August 1972 and the key role played by Martin McGuinness, John Hume, and Mitchel McLaughlin, as well as local residents’ testimony, detailing their memories of the conflict.
A spokesperson for the Foundation commented: “The Foundation believes that the museum will be an important addition to the city, providing a space for education, reflection, and engagement with the history of the conflict and the ongoing peace process.
“The creation of new jobs as part of the project is also very welcome news.
“The Foundation also notes with appreciation that the funding is part of the Executive’s Urban Villages programme which Martin championed during his time in office.
“It is therefore appropriate that this is now complementing both the work of the Foundation and honouring his legacy.
“We now look forward to the completion of the museum and to its opening as a valuable resource for the people of Derry and beyond.”
