Man who died in ‘tragic accident’ at Tobermore Concrete named

Colin Desmond Thomas, from Tobermore, passed away following a ‘tragic accident’

A man who died during an incident at one of Tobermore Concrete’s factories has been named locally. 

Colin Desmond Thomas, from Tobermore, passed away following a ‘tragic accident’ in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday). 

It is understood emergency services were called to the Lisnamuck Road premises at 1.29am.

Police have confirmed that they are investigating the incident along with the Health and Safety Executive. 

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating the circumstances, although the man's death is not believed to be suspicious at this time.”

In a statement, Tobermore Concrete said it was ‘devastated’ by the news. 

“Tobermore can confirm there has been a tragic accident in one of our factories. We are devastated to report that a colleague has lost his life,” it said.

“Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with the family at this difficult time. Tobermore are offering counselling to support our staff.

“At Tobermore, the Health and Safety of our employees is our utmost priority. An investigation is currently under way aided by the relevant authorities. We won’t be making any further comment at this time.”

TUV’s Glenn Moore, who worked with Mr Thomas, expressed his condolences. 

“The man who sadly lost his life in the work place accident in Tobermore was a colleague of mine and a gentleman,” he said. 

“The whole community is in a state of shock at this horrific news. 

“I would like to take this opportunity to pass on my condolences to his family, friends and work colleagues.”
