Councillor Brian McGuigan has welcomed news of the play park's re-opening.
Sinn Féin councillor, Brian McGuigan said he is 'pleased to confirm that Swatragh Play-Park is to reopen in the coming weeks, once much needed work in relation to health and safety concerns is completed'.
Speaking to the County Derry Post last night, Councillor McGuigan said: “ I have been informed that the successful tender for this essential work has been awarded and the contractor appointed. Due to the significant cost involved, Mid-Ulster District Council had to ensure that the proper procurement process was completed. Hence the delay with reopening.
“Swatragh Play-Park will be the first of a number of play parks across our district to have essential work carried out, and this work will commence over the next few weeks.
“I take this opportunity to commend my party colleague, Councillor Sean McPeake, who has led on this important matter for the residents and ratepayers of Swatragh and its rural hinterland, while also keeping council officers and staff focused on the need for the delivery of first-class services equally across our district council area, including its peripheral villages such as Swatragh.
“Knowing the importance of play in children’s development, the reopening of Swatragh Play-Park will be very welcome.”
