Bonagee Utd 1
Foyle Harps made a statement of intent with this comprehensive defeat of Bonagee Utd, that they will not easily relinquish their hold on the Thomas Burke Perpetual Cup.
From the first whistle they dominated this first round game at Oakland Park on Saturday.
Jamie Dunne put Harps ahead after ten minutes with a neat finish. He added a second within five minutes before Calvin McCallion made it three after half an hour. Bonagee had no answer at this stage and it was no surprise when Mikhael Kennedy punished a defensive error to score Harps fourth.
Just before half time Dunne completed his hat-trick to make it five nil to Harps. To their credit, Bonagee made more of a game of it after the break and Dan O'Donnell pulled one back with a fine strike from twenty yards, but Harps reacted well and added a sixth when Dean Brown cut inside and found the bottom corner.
Jamie Dunne put the icing on the cake with his fourth and Harps seventh to conclude the scoring. On this evidence Foyle Harps will be the team to beat for any side with thoughts of winning the Burkey Cup this year.
