Alliance Party candidate - Michael Downey.
Michael Downey is standing for the Alliance Party in Derry's Moor Ward in the upcoming Local Government Elections on May 18.
According to Alliance, Michael Downey, is one of the youngest candidates in Derry-Strabane. He is currently finishing his final year of the University of Central Lancashire.
A son of the Bogside, Michael's father’s family is from the Brandywell.
In his Healthcare studies, Michael prioritises improving access to medical and healthcare services, especially for those who are from disadvantaged backgrounds. He believes quality healthcare should be accessible to all, regardless of background.
Chair of the local Alliance Party in 2022, Michael said the biggest challenges facing residents in The Moor were: the major cost of living crisis; the rising cost of food and heat; pay rates undermined by inflation; and job prospects for school leavers.
