Alliance Party candidate - Mel Boyle.

Mel Boyle is standing for the Alliance Party in Derry City and Strabane District Council's Sperrin Ward in the upcoming Local Government Elections on May 18.

Strabane man Mel Boyle is an IT professional. After school in Strabane and the North West Regional College, he graduated from John Moore's University, Liverpool.

Mr Boyle worked many years in Allstate Insurance, then became an Incident Management Consultant, so he knows the world of IT and also the challenges of being self-employed, of running a business.

A father of two, Mr Boyle is a keen runner, cyclist, and outdoor swimmer. He favours healthy lifestyles and is a Parkrun ambassador. (He started the parkrun in Stormont, after approaching East Belfast Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle).

Mr Boyle said his priorities as a councillor were "huge and urgent".

He added: "It is obvious that the infrastructure around Strabane is urgently in need of attention and action - from upgrading the A5 to the new riverine country park and a new leisure centre".
