A man who experienced a 'complete collapse in his life' has been given a suspended sentence and an enhanced combination order at Derry Magistrate's Court today on charges relating to possessing indecent images of children.
Shaun Kevin White (44) of Mount Vernon in Derry admitted making indecent images of children on dates between September 9 2021 and January 20 2021.
He also admitted possessing indecent images of children on February 4 2022.
The court heard that a police investigation into child sex abuse carried out a search and seized a phone belonging to White.
16 files were discovered on this device with indecent images of children on them.
The court was told that police there was no evidence of distribution of the images.
When interviewed the defendant made full admissions and said he had been going through 'a dark period in his life.'
A defence solicitor said his client had shown 'deep remorse and regret'.
He said his client was entitled to maximum credit for the way he had met the charges.
White was sentenced to 4 months in prison suspended for two years and an enhanced combination order of two years probation and 60 hours community service.
He was also ordered to sign the Sex Offender's Register for 7 years and had a Sexual Offences Prevention Order imposed for a period of 5 years.
