Securing future of services at Racecourse Medical must be top priority – Mayor Sandra Duffy.

Sinn Féin Councillor Sandra Duffy has said every effort must be made to secure the future of GP services at Racecourse Medical Practice.

Sandra Duffy said: "It’s deeply concerning that the new GP contractor for Racecourse Medical Practice in Shantallow has fallen through.

“However, I welcome assurances that services will continue as normal and be managed by the Western Trust until a new contractor is secured, providing huge relief to patients.

“This practices provides healthcare to around 5000 people in the Greater Shantallow area and across the city, and every effort must be made to protect GP services at this centre.

“I am requesting an urgent update from the Western Trust and Department of Health on what work is underway to secure a new contractor at Racecourse Medical."

Cllr Duffy added that the situation at Racecourse Medical was yet another clear indication of the need for an Executive.

"We need an Executive up and running now to invest in the health service and a locally elected health minister in place to take decisions."
