Court Gavel

Two men charged in connection with the painting of a Christmas mural in Junior McDaid House the headquarters of the dissident republican group Saoradh will have their case heard at Derry Magistrate's Court on August 1.

Jordan Devine (22) of Bishop Street and William McDonnell (36) of Balbane Pass both in Derry are charged with being a member or supporters of a proscribed organisation in that they displayed the mural on dates between November 24 and December 21 2022.

The mural depicted a Santa Claus detonating a command wire for a device beside a police vehicle.

At today's sitting defence counsel for Devine, Eoghan Devlin, said that no witnesses were required in the case and it should last approximately one hour.

He said any date suitable to the court would be acceptable.

A date was fixed for the contest on August 1.

Both defendants are on bail.
