SDLP Infrastructure Spokesperson, Mark H Durkan MLA has welcomed the installation of a Mobile Speed Indicator Device along the Maydown Road to deter speeding in the area.

It follows safety concerns raised by Mr Durkan on behalf of constituents.

The Foyle MLA said: “Pleased that a Mobile Speed Indicator Device has been located on the Maydown Road by Derry Strabane Police & Community Safety Partnership, having lobbied for such an intervention.

“These devices make motorists aware of their speed and the need to slow down, in effect protecting all road users. I hope this will go some way in addressing speeding along this route.

“The devices are moved around different locations to maximise their effect – I would advise people to get in touch and let me know where else you think one might be useful and I can make representations in that regard.

“The SDLP has been instrumental in the delivery of enhanced Road Safety measures in the Maydown area seeing the installation of new traffic signals, a pedestrian crossing and a reduced speed limit and will continue to push for improvements wherever required across Derry and beyond.”
