Public meeting tonight on campaign to 'Defend Free Travel for Over-60s'

A community public meeting will take place tonight, Wednesday July 5, at 7.00pm in Derry's Playhouse, Artillery Street.

The meeting is being held to raise awareness on the proposal by Department for Infrastructure to end free travel for over 60s in Northern Ireland.

Hosted by Cllr Shaun Harkin (People Before Profit), the public will also get a chance to hear from a wide range of speakers from Into the West, transport workers, campaigners for older people, disability rights and others.

A consultation on changes to the Northern Ireland Concessionary Fares Scheme has been launched by the Department for Infrastructure.

The 12-week public consultation will review eligibility for the Scheme, which has not changed since 2008.
