Derry Court: 29-year-old man who 'kicked out' at police fined for resisting arrest

Man returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on 28 charges

Derry Magistrates Court

A man who 'kicked out' at police has been fined at Derry Magistrate's Court today.

Paul Stewart (29) of Knockalla Park in Derry admitted a charge of resisting police on November 13 last year.

The court heard that police attended an address in the city around 6pm on that date and the defendant was 'kicking off'.

As he was being led away by an officer the defendant broke away and tried to run but slipped on some grass.

When police tried to arrest him he resisted.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that his client had a bad record but had made an early plea.

He said Stewart 'regrets' his actions.

Stewart was fined £200.
