Derry Magistrate's Court
Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how a police patrol on duty during the annual Apprentice Boys March found a man unconscious in the middle of the Glendermott Road.
Leslie Miller (36) of Auglish Court in Derry appeared charged with breaching his bail by consuming alcohol on August 12.
The court heard that during the parade police noticed a crowd around Miller lying in the middle of the road.
They attended and Miller 'could barely stand' and was arrested and then collapsed again due to his intoxicated state.
The court heard that this was Miller's second breach of bail and the police officer said that the defendant's offending was linked to his drinking.
Defence counsel Eoghan Devlin said that his client had sought help but 'it does not seem to have been particularly successful'.
He said that the defendant had been in a stable environment for a few years but after a relationship broke down he found it difficult to control his drinking.
District Judge Oonagh Mullan said that she would release Miller 'reluctantly' to allow him to seek further help.
He was bailed on condition he does not consume alcohol, observes a curfew and wears a tag.
He will appear again on September 15.
