Plans have been submitted to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council for a new social housing development in Dungiven.
The proposed location for the residential development is 10 Station Road, the site of the former Station House.
Known as a local landmark, the property sits adjacent to the site of the former Dungiven railway line which operated between July 1883 and January 1933.
Proposals include the refurbishment and part demolition of the existing Station House to provide one four-person, two-bedroom house.
The application also includes the new build construction of 14 apartments in two blocks. The apartments consist of one three-person, two-bedroom wheelchair apartment, seven three-person, two bedroom apartments and six two-person, one bedroom-apartments.
It is understood the plans are supported by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.
In a letter sent to the council, a NIHE representative emphasised that Dungiven has a 'five year projected new build requirement of 78 social housing units for the period 2022-2027'.
“We support the scheme in its entirety for social housing as it contributes to meeting unmet need in this area,” said the spokesperson.
