Steelstown picked up a valuable win over Ballymaguigan to keep their Senior Championship hopes alive at Celtic Park.

The reigning champions fell to defeat to Glen last week, but they made sure there was no repeat with a dominant showing.

Trailing 0-3, 0-1 after 10 minutes, it looked as if Steelstown would be in a game with Anna Martin and Aoife McGlone the best players on the pitch for a confident Ballymaguigan.

But a timely score from Eimear O’Doherty got Steelstown back into the game and from there they never looked back.

Three scores from Orla McGeough and another from Megan Devine preceded a goal from Ciara McGurk as Steelstown finished the half strongly to lead 1-6,0-3 at the break.

Ballymaguigan were much improved in the second half and two frees from Katherine Crozier got them back on the board, but Steelstown continued to chip away and two scores from McGurk and another from McGeough kept them ahead 1-9, 0-5 heading into the last 15 minutes.

Ballymaguigan never gave up, but Steelstown made sure of the victory with just two minutes remaining when Collins set the impressive McGeough away to fire into the net to seal a big win for Brian Ogs.
