Ebrington 2024 application withdrawn as part of mediation process.
A spokesperson for The Executive Office has told Derry Now applications for events in Ebrington Square in both 2023 and 2024 were tendered in 2022.
The added that the process had now concluded.
In a statement, the spokesperson said: “Applications for events in both 2023 and 2024 were tendered in 2022, with the process now having concluded. The process allows for five major events annually, in addition to minor events.
“There were 17 applications, three of which were for music events on Ebrington Square. Two of these, planned for summer 2023, have taken place. The remaining application, which was for 2024, has been withdrawn.
“The application mentioned above was withdrawn by the promoter as part of the mediation process (for reasons including that the promoter had applied for dates which were not suitable for his event).
“The following major events are due to take place in 2024: Cullen’s Amusements, from March 29, 2024 to April 7, 2024; Waterside Half Marathon/Wheelchair Race, on September 1,2024 (provisional, subject to final confirmation); and Cullen’s Amusements, from October 25, 2024 to November 3, 2024.
“Ebrington Square is a unique, quality event space and a significant asset to the city. TEO is committed to this vision.
“New guidelines and criteria for the holding of events, including concerts, from 2025 onwards, will be developed as part of a co-design process with all stakeholders, including promoters, public representatives, and all Ebrington Square tenants, ensuring concerns are considered and addressed. This process is to begin urgently.”
