Derry Court: Man (45) with 'a very poor bail history' refused bail

Curry has 17 breaches of bail on his record

Man returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on 28 charges

Derry Court

A man who the court heard had three convictions for damaging his electronic tag and for assault on G4S security staff has been refused bail at Derry Magistrate's Court.

Jason Curry (45) of Mount Street in Derry is charged with three assaults on the same female, criminal damage, making threats to kill, a domestic abuse charge and one of false imprisonment.

All of the offences were said to have occurred on dates in December last year.

A police officer told the court that she had talked to the alleged victim in the case who said that she was no longer afraid of Curry.

She did say that despite this police were still opposed to bail for Curry.

She said the defendant was a domestic violence perpetrator and she had no doubt if released he would try and return to a domestic setting.

The officer said Curry had 'a very poor bail history' with 17 breaches of bail on his record.

She said in the past the defendant had breached every condition that had been imposed on him.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that his client had a record for domestic violence.

He said that this was a short lived relationship and he believed that he could be managed with conditions.

The solicitor said that the proposed address was some miles away from the alleged victim.

District Judge Barney McElholm said that the proposed address was 'a moderate walk away' which gave no comfort to the court.

He added that Curry had shown in the past he would not abide by bail conditions.

He refused bail and Curry will appear again on October 16.
