Institute will meet Limavady United in the Northwest Cup final after cruising past Maiden City at the Brandywell.

Dylan King, Alex Machado, Sean Carlin, Kirk McLaughlin (2) and Bobby Deane all scored for Kevin Deery's team, who now head to Ards on Friday night on the back of two home wins in four days.

‘Stute opened the scoring on the half hour, when Liam Mullan’s corner picked out defender Dylan King who powered a header past Ray Kelly from six yards.

‘Stute could have made it two goals in three minutes when they were awarded a penalty almost immediately when Ryan Devine fouled Carlin in the area. Mark Mbuli’s effort from 12 yards was decent but Kelly again was brilliant, diving full-stretch to his right to push the penalty away from danger.

It was completely one-sided at this stage however and ‘Stute made it 2-0 on 34 minutes. Carlin again picked out a run in behind, this time for McLaughlin, whose ball right across the face of goal found Alex Machado, who tapped in an easy second.

It all went badly wrong for Maiden City before half time, as they conceded another two goals in the space of three minutes.

It was 3-0 when Orrin McLaughlin’s deep cross turned into the perfect ball for Sean Carlin, who couldn’t miss coming in at the back post to score his first goal of the season.

Maiden City then gifted their opponents a second penalty in the first 45 minutes when Jason Breslin went in late on McLaughlin, referee Gareth Stewart pointing to the spot after a few seconds; thought. This time McLaughlin stepped up and Kelly couldn’t repeat his heroics, with the forward striking the ball low and hard past his outstretched right foot.

Half Time 4-0

The second half was just six minutes old before ‘Stute added a fifth, and it was too easy for the home side as Carlin again picked out the pass, driving to the byline before flashing the ball across goal where McLaughlin stood to tap in his second.

Cormac Burke made his first appearance of the season from the bench and he created a sixth ‘Stute goal with his first touch, his corner finding Bobby Deane, who headed in unmarked at the back post.

Maiden City’s response was impressive to their credit and they pulled two goals back in the following seven minutes, substitute Conor Moore scoring with a fine drilled finish past Gareth Muldoon before Dylan Mooney turned quickly and shot low into the corner to put some respectability on the scoreline.
