The Bounce Festival returned to Derry last Friday and Saturday with a fantastic celebration of artistic diversity and inclusion in venues throughout the city.

Organised by the University of Atypical, the festival highlights the extraordinary talent and creativity of d/Deaf, Disabled and neurodiverse artists.

Derry hosted a number of fun events including ‘Derry Ones – What’s the Craic’ performed in front of the Guildhall by Stage Beyond, the award-winning theatre company for adults with learning difficulties.

The company brought its famous puppet show to town for a stellar line-up of fun sketches with a Derry theme, with a host of celebrity characters popping up from behind the curtain on the steps of the Guildhall.

Over at the Tuned In Centre, the Au-some Collective created an inclusive choral environment to raise awareness of neurodiversity with primary school children from the city.

There was also a pop-up music event featuring Strabane’s own Jude Kuzma, aka DJ Bulletix at the North West Transport Hub. An electronic music composer and producer, graphic artist and wild-life watcher, Jude is famed for his energetic performances and distinctive vocals.

The Centre for Contemporary Art was the setting for Lough Fad: A User’s Guide book launch and performance by multi-media artist, Ciaran O Dochartaigh, while the Void Arts Centre held a successful Serve Your Rights! Poster Making Workshop and Display led by local artist Indigo Azidahaka for local children.

Federica Ferrieri, the Bounce Arts Festival Co-ordinator, who attended all of the Derry-based events, said the city had given the festival a typically warm welcome.

“Derry really embraces everything that Bounce is about, providing a great showcase for the talents of these amazing artists. We would like to thank all of those who attended and enjoyed what the festival has to offer.”
