Derry girl claims silver at prestigious Irish language singing competition

Róise Ní Mhurchú of Cooleen Park, Culmore won a silver medal at the Oireachtas competition

A young Derry woman has claimed a silver at a prestigious Irish language singing competition.

Róise Ní Mhurchú of Cooleen Park, Culmore won a silver medal at the Oireachtas competition for Amhránaíocht Ghaeilge/Irish singing. 

Native Irish speakers from Gaeltacht regions participate in singing and language competitions annually and Róise felt "honoured to bring home a medal to Derry" on her first attempt.

The former Thornhill woman is studying Gaelscolaíocht/Irish language education in St Mary's College of Education, Belfast.
