Man (18) remanded at Derry Court for sixth bail breach this year

Man returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on 28 charges

A man has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrates Court charged with breaching his bail conditions.

Stephen Mongan, 18, of Clon Elagh in Derry, appeared for breaching bail related to an assault charge against his partner.

As part of his bail conditions, Mongan was forbidden from making contact with the victim but police said on November 5 they found him hiding in her bathroom.

Police opposed bail as this is his sixth breach this year.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley told the court that Mongan was a 'lad of eighteen years old' with 'limited intellect' that wasn't fit to plead.

He added that the court had, in the past, 'dealt with youths that could buy and sell many adults', but that Mongan 'couldn't buy or sell anyone'.

District Judge Barney McElhom said that Mongan had previously been warned what would happen if he breached his bail and revoked it pending his next appearance on November 8.
