Cian Kavanagh has left Derry City
Cian Kavanagh has left Derry City, after 40 appearances and five goals.
The striker, who joined the club from Waterford last summer, has had some memorable moments for the Candystripes, most notably when he came off the bench to score the winner against KuPS in the Europa Conference League tie at the Brandywell in July. Kavanagh made 33 appearances this past season, but mainly as a substitute, coming off the bench 22 times in all competitions.
"To be fair to Cian, he had some big moments that I’m sure he will look back on fondly," Ruaidhri Higgins said. "He got a big winner for us last year down in Inchicore.
"He’s had a few big European goals this year as well, so I think he will leave here a better player. It’s good having a good, healthy sized squad, but you can’t have too many either because it can cause disharmony, not that that’s the case, but you can’t have four or five strikes, it’s impossible.
"There has been decent interest in Cian and he’s going to move on elsewhere."
