Trojans YCG have started a brand new football programme for adults with learning difficulties in conjunction with Lilliput Disability charity.
Supported by the Clear Project, the event takes place at Bishop's Field and the opening day was a fantastic morning of laughter and fun for all involved. Facilitated by Gerry Colhoun, Clare Wright and Brian Hassan, the programme takes place every Tuesday and has already proved to be a great success.
"We've done these programmes before in the past, but we hadn't done one in years, so myself and Gerard Bradley were talking about it one night and so I applied for the funding and it has gone from there," Clare explained. "It is a 20-week programme with Lilliput and it's football skills for adults with learning disabilities and there will be between 10-20 people there every week hopefully."
As well as learning key football skills, those participating also had plenty of enjoyment with Trojans legend Gerry Colhoun offering his own brand of unique entertainment.
"We all had some laugh, and they especially had a laugh with Gerry," Clare continued. "Gerry is helping us running the programme and they had some craic with him. He is their entertainment, he had them all laughing and joking so everyone had a good time. And that's what it's all about. There's the social aspect to it of course, and there's the fitness side of it as well. It gets them moving about, they get exercise and they definitely had a good time."
Clare, Gerry and Brian would like to extend their thanks to the CLEAR Project for supporting Trojans YCG with the funding. Their thanks also go to all the staff at Bishop's Field for their help on the day.
