A man told police he ordered drugs by post but was too drunk to remember doing it Derry Magistrate's Court heard today.

Colin Friel (48) of Glenview Street in Derry admitted two charges of attempted possession of Class C drugs on March 27 this year.

The court heard that two parcels of drugs addressed to the defendant were intercepted. 

Friel then attended Strand Road and said he had ordered the drugs while drunk and only realised it when he saw his bank statement. 

Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that her client was self medicating but was receiving assistance for his issues. 

She said he had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity. 

Friel was fined a total of £250.
