Derry Magistrate's Court
A man has pleaded guilty at Derry Crown Court to a charge of damaging an historical monument.
James Thompson (76) of Coney Road in Derry admitted one charge of damage to an historical monument namely an anti-aircraft battery from World War 2 on a date between February 19 2019 and October 19 2022.
A prosecution barrister said that in a similar type of case a defendant had been fined £50,000.
The Recorder Judge Neil Rafferty said that he was not contemplating an immediate custodial sentence in this case so a pre-sentence report was not required.
He said it was likely it would be a monetary penalty and adjourned the case until January 31 to be dealt with.
Thompson was released on continuing bail.
