Three men charged over alleged 'crime spree' from Armagh to County Derry

Michael McGlinchey appeared before Coleraine Magistrates Court this morning.

A County Derry man has appeared before a local court charged with the murder of Limavady teenager Blake Newland.

Michael Joseph Charles McGlinchey, of Roemill Gardens, Limavady, appeared via videolink from Waterside Custody Suite before Coleraine Magistrates Court this morning.

The 53 year-old, who had visible facial injuries and sat at times with his head in his hands, only spoke to confirm his details and that he understood the charge against him.

A walking frame could be seen sitting beside him.

A detective sergeant told the court that he could connect the accused to the murder charge before the court.

Earlier this week, McGlinchey's two sons - Stephen Owen McGlinchey, 27, from Dunmore Place, and Andrew McGlinchey, 29, from Roe Mill Gardens, both in Limavady - appeared before Ballymena Magistrates’ Court, also charged with murder.

Andrew McGlinchey was further charged with assault on a police officer.

The brothers did not apply for bail and both were remanded in custody until March 4.

Two 16 year-old boys also appeared before the same court charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.

The two teenagers' case was also adjourned until March 4.

Michael McGlinchey's solicitor Don Mahoney told the court that his client would not be applying for bail today due to the 'local feeling' but said he planned to apply for bail at a later date.

District Judge Peter King remanded McGlinchey in custody and adjourned the case until March 4 where the accused is due to appear via videolink before Coleraine Magistrates Court.
