A woman who was due to face a preliminary enquiry (PE) at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with cheating the public purse, namely HMRC, of more than £250,000 has had her case adjourned.

Wendy McBean (60) of Railway Park in St Johnston, County Donegal faces a total of 25 charges.

She is charged with cheating HMRC out of £250,000 by claiming Foyle Youth and Community Association had received donations of more than £1,000,000.

She was also charged with nine counts of fraud by false representation, nine charges of transfering criminal property and six charges of forgery.

All of the offences were said to have occurred on dates between October 27, 2017 and December 3, 2018.

At today's hearing a defence solicitor, Paddy McDaid, said he had only recently received papers in the case and added it was 'a complicated matter'.

He said he needed time to go through three lever arch files of material and possibly bring in a forensic accountant.

The solicitor asked for an adjournment of the PE until April 3 and this was granted.
