Local boxers qualify for National Championships

Northwest contingent had 24 boxers qualify for the National Championships, which will take place over the Easter weekend at Dublin's National Stadium

Local boxers qualify for National Championships

Boxers from Oakleaf ABC who participated in the recent Ulster Championship finals at Rochesters.

There was standing room only at the recent Ulster Championship finals, held at Rochesters Boxing Club.

Overall, there were 38 bouts contested in the Boy/ Girl ,11,12,&13 years event. The best from the Northwest met their opponents from Mid Ulster and had the large attendance on their feet throughout showing great appreciation for all these young boxers, who produced terrific entertainment on the day.

After 5 hours of boxing, the Northwest contingent had 24 boxers qualify for the National Championships, which will take place over the Easter weekend at Dublin's National Stadium.

Those boxers are: Cahir Duffy, St. Joseph's, Martin Ward and Josiah Ciarns, Oakleaf, Sean McNamee, St John's and Sean Hughes, Skerries, St Bridget's, Donegal, Ryan Glackin and Patrick McDaid, and Marcus Vijeon and Liam Weatherall from Star of the Sea, Faughanvale.

Females who qualified come from Illies GG, Cassie Lynch joins club mates Erin Doyle and Rosin Hegarty, Claire McStocker, Loup and Oakleaf's Anna O'Conner and Shanice Robinson.

The medal presentations were made by Ulster Council President, Kevin Duffy, World Middleweight contender Connor Coyle, former Derry Gaelic star Tom Mc Guinness and newly qualified Irish Olympian, Jude Gallagher. It was a great day of championship boxing and on behalf of us all in the boxing fraternity we wish all the kids good luck in Dublin in their quest for National titles.
