Steelstown Primary School had a virtual ‘clean sweep’ in the annual St. John Ambulance Badger Day competitions held at St. Columb’s College recently, winning the Sir Basil McFarland Cup and the TA Smallwood Cup.
Steelstown’s Badger Set Boys, consisting of Patrick Mooney, Shaun McAteer and Lorcan Stewart came away with first place after a closely-fought contest with the Pennyburn/Richmond combined team.
The boys worked hard to gain points in the practical to collect the Sir Basil Trophy for the second year in a row.
The girls, captained by Beth O’Doherty included Niamh Barnfield and the two Lucys – McDaid and Hamilton, who all gave sterling accounts of themselves as a team, coming out on top in a tight contest with Lisnagelvin and Greenhaw Badger Setts and picking up the TA Smallwood Cup.
Speaking after the success, Badgers Leader Maria McCafferty said she was extremely proud of both the teams from Steelstown.

The next competition for the Sett will be in Lisneal College for the Annual Football Competition, another fun competition with all the young Badgers in the City contesting.
