New principal appointed to Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí in Donegal Town

Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí have announced Eoghan Ó Gráda as its new Principal

The board of management of Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí are pleased to announce the appointment of Eoghan Ó Gráda as principal for the new school term. Eoghan takes over from Colmán Mac Cumhaill, who has held the role of acting principal since September 2018.

Eoghan was born and raised in Derry City, and currently resides there with his partner Catherine, and their son and daughter. He graduated with a Bachelor in Education with Irish in 2008 from St. Mary’s University College, Belfast, and has taught for the past sixteen years in schools in the north of Ireland and the Republic.

Eoghan gained the majority of his teaching experience in Gaelscoil Léim an Mhadaidh in County Derry, where he was a curricular and assessment leader, a member of the Senior Leadership Team, and where he was acting principal for two periods.

Commenting on the appointment, Caitríona Nic Seoin, Chairperson of the Board of Management of Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí said: "I would like to congratulate Eoghan on his appointment, and we look forward to working alongside him and with the entire Gaelscoil community as we enter an exciting new phase in our history”.

Welcoming his appointment, Eoghan Ó Gráda said: “I am really looking to becoming part of the team and of the school community in Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí, adding to the wonderful work carried out by the current staff and by staff members who worked in the school in the past. I am optimistic for the future and look forward to leading the school into an exciting new chapter”.

Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí hit the headlines early last year, when the school community mounted a campaign to overturn a government decision to postpone their new school build. The Gaelscoil will be 25 years in operation this year, and are on course to move into their new state of the art eight-classroom school building plus two special autism classrooms later this year.
