Derry Intermediate Football Championship: Summary of Round One fixtures

Faughanvale

Faughanvale v Greenlough

Derry’s Intermediate Football Championship threw in this weekend as 12 clubs entered, hopeful of getting off to a perfect start.

Faughanvale added to their memorable league campaign with a narrow 0-8 to 0-7 first round victory away to Greenlough, in a game lacking excitement despite a Jordan Curran red card for the visitors.

Forglen and Eoghan Rua Coleraine were also victorious in Group B in the opening round of the intermediate championship.

Forglen edged out Glenullin at home on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-11, a poor start for back-to-back intermediate championship champions.

Following a poor season and relegation from the Senior League, Coleraine earned their first victory of the season on a scoreline of 0-10 to 0-9 over Desertmartin.

Meanwhile, in Group A, favourites for the competition, Ballinderry, got off to an expected start as they were comfortable victors over Limavady Wolfhounds on Thursday evening, 3-17 to 1-9.

Banagher got off to a perfect start as they waltzed to victory over rivals and neighbours Claudy by 20 points on a scoreline of 4-9 to 0-1.

The remaining game of the group ended in a stalemate as Drumsurn stopped Castledawson, beginning their campaign with a home victory.

The team based just outside Limavady left Castledawson with a point as the game finished 0-12 to 1-9.
