A live maritime flare was discovered on a County Derry beach this morning (Friday).
Police received a report that the flare had been discovered on Portstewart Strand just before 9.30am.
The beach was closed for a time until Army Technical Officers could attend and make the flare safe.
This operation was carried out without damage or injury.
The beach has now reopened.
Sergeant Purvis said: “Our primary aim was to protect the public and I would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding.”
