Danny Mullen has scored 10 goals for Derry City this season.
Derry City have been boosted by the news that striker Danny Mullen has agreed a one-year extension to his current contract.
The 29-year-old, who joined the club last July, has made 51 appearances and scored 13 goals, proving himself a very valuable member of Ruaidhri Higgins’ squad.
Mullen is on double figures for the season and has contributed some big goals in big moments, and his manager described him as a valuable part of the squad.
“It’s great news for the club and good for Danny as well,” he said. “Danny's had a major, major impact here. He’s probably not had the amount of minutes that he would like, but he's certainly been a huge asset to the club since he's come in the door.”
Mullen is Derry’s most used substitute this season, making 19 of his 33 appearances from the bench, and he has scored four of his goals in that role, but Higgins says it would be unfair to describe him as a ‘super sub’.
“He scored big goals when he started games too, a lot of big goals when he started games,” he continued. “I think it's unfair to give him that label. He's been too important. But he's such a brilliant teammate as well and a brilliant person because the quality he has and what he's done for us.
“Don't get me wrong, he's not thrilled by any means to be sitting on the bench but he conducts himself in such a respectful manner. He's a joy to have around. He's very popular in the dressing room. He's a smashing player and him and his partner Kelsie and his young family seem to be really happy and really settled here which is important.”
