SDLP MLA For Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone, has welcomed the announcement that the new Labour Government in Westminster will proceed with the proposed Mid South West Growth Deal. The announcement was made by the UK Chancellor during the budget speech on Wednesday.

Mid Ulster MLA Patsy McGlone said, “I welcome the commitment given by the British Chancellor that the Labour Government will proceed with the proposed Mid South West Growth Deal.

“The proposal has the potential to deliver much needed investment in the Mid Ulster region.

“After creating confusion over the future of the Growth Deals in the North, the Labour Government has now confirmed that they will go ahead after all.

“While details of the Mid South West Deal have not yet been released, the projects being funded are expected to focus on skills, innovation, infrastructure and the tourist economy.

“This news will be a great relief for all those involved in the projects due to be funded.

“It is a welcome investment in rural areas at a time when rural services face continued cuts.”
