Jude McAtamney
County Derry’s Jude McAtamney is set to make his NFL debut for the New York Giants.
The Swatragh man would make history by becoming the first Derry man to feature in the regular season of the NFL.
The Giants are playing the Washington Commanders on Sunday, November 3.
The opportunity has come about due to current starting kicker Greg Joseph being ruled out with an abdomen injury, and punter Jamie Gillan is also out.
The former Derry Under-20 Gaelic footballer, McAtamney, won an Ulster title in 2020 before moving to the United States to play with Rutgers University.
Following graduation from Rutgers University, McAtamney impressed the New York side and earned a place on the practice squad through the International Player Pathway, which allows him to be on the practice squad for three seasons.
The 24-year-old now has a major opportunity with this fixture; however, it will not be easy as the Commanders have been the surprise package of the NFL this season and the Giants have not won a regular-season fixture at home this campaign.
If McAtamney can impress, there is a chance he will feature in the next game against the Carolina Panthers in the final international game of the season, when they face off in the Allianz Arena in Munich.
