A road sign between Derry and Donegal was altered by a group of activists.

Derry Lasair Dhearg activists changed a sign which originally said Northern Ireland to ‘Occupied Ireland’, on the border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The group posted an image of the altered road sign on their Instagram account on November 13.

In their post Lasair Dhearg said: “Derry Lasair Dhearg activists changed a road sign this evening on the border between Derry and Donegal to highlight the reality of British occupation and partition in Ireland.

“Despite what we are told by former Republicans and the ruling class in the Occupied Six Counties we are still no closer to unity after 25 years of the Good Friday Agreement.

“The reality is that 20,000 British security personnel continue to maintain the British state apparatus and their interests in Ireland, along with Stormont overseeing the affairs of the Occupied Six Counties on behalf of Westminster.

“Scores of military bases, alongside thousands of heavily armed personnel, still stalk our streets.

“British occupation is not an illusion, it is a reality.

“‘Welcome to Occupied Ireland’.”
