Met Office issue yellow weather warning for Derry
A yellow weather warning has been issued for Derry, ahead of the arrival of Storm Darragh.
The Met Office has advised of strong and gusty winds that are set to impact the whole of Northern Ireland.
Meanwhile, Met Éireann issued a yellow weather warning across seven counties, including Donegal.
The national forecaster has warned of strong west to northwest winds and urged people to avoid taking any avoidable risks.
Some delays to road, rail, air, and ferry transport are also likely.
The Met Office warned about the possibility of short-term loss of power and disruption to other services, urging the public to be careful.
This warning is valid from 3 pm on Thursday until 3 am on Friday.
A spokesman for the Met Office said: “It will become cloudy with heavy showers or longer spells of rain pushing eastwards across Northern Ireland, together with strong westerly winds. A yellow national severe weather warning is in place from 3 pm today until 3 am tomorrow morning.
“Tomorrow will be mainly dry and bright before rain spreads northeast during the afternoon, becoming heavy and accompanied by strong southeast winds, heralding the arrival of Storm Darragh.
“Yellow National Severe Weather warnings are in place for both wind and rain on Friday and an Amber wind warning for much of Saturday covering all of Northern Ireland. It will turn drier later in the day and stay mainly dry but cold and cloudy for Sunday.”
