The Ráth Mór 50 + Club enjoyed a fun-pact day of celebration and reverie at Ráth Mór on Tuesday to mark the Club’s 20th Anniversary.
A special lunch was prepared by Creggan Enterprises, along with music, entertainment, party bags and a slideshow of memories covering the last 20 years of club activities.
Members were surprised and delighted when the event was attended by Mayor Seenoi-Barr, who took the opportunity to thank the members for all their charitable work and community contribution over the years.
The club was set up in 2004 by a number of local Creggan activists who identified a need for older residents to stay active in their community to reduce isolation and improve their health and wellbeing.
With the exception of a number of months during the Covid pandemic the club has met every Tuesday for the last two decades, with hundreds of members over the years enjoying a wide range of social, community, educational and wellbeing opportunities and activities programmed at Ráth Mór.

One of the driving forces of the Club over its duration is founding member Margaret McGlinchey, who unfortunately could not attend on Tuesday. Margaret is a mainstay at Ráth Mór and is responsible for countless community initiatives and charitable endeavours throughout the St Mary’s Parish and wider community.
In acknowledgment of Margaret’s critical contribution to club and community – a special presentation was made by Mayor Seenoi-Barr and received on behalf of the Club by Margaret’s close friend Donna Fahey.
Speaking at the event longtime club member Bridie Doherty said “The club has been a real lifeline for many of the ladies here, and Ráth Mór is a home from home for all of us, everyone here makes us so welcome and today’s celebration has been really special – we really appreciate the gesture.”
Creggan Enterprises’ Development Executive Conal McFeely commented “The ladies here are the heart and soul of Ráth Mór, and the first to take part in everything going on in the community, they are full of energy and enthusiasm and a willingness to do things for others and the betterment of the community. The club is a really special place, where friendships are formed and people come for support and companionship. I’m really glad that the Club calls Ráth Mór home, I have no doubt that the 50+ Club will be here for another 20 years.”
