Pól McGuigan, a Software Quality Assurance Engineer from Maghera, started a fundraiser on Christmas Eve with an initial goal of raising £300 to support local food banks.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the community he has raised £625 (at the time of print).
Speaking about his challenge, the south Derry man said he wanted to give back to the community.

“I’ve been live on Twitch since Christmas Eve, streaming nearly 24/7, including sleeping on stream, to share my daily life and connect with the community to encourage donations,” he said.

“Over the past two years and 10 months, I’ve built a following of 5,600 people on my channel, MrPol (twitch.tv/mrpol). My streams are all about exploring Belfast city centre, supporting local businesses, promoting the city, and meeting the amazing people who live here.

“During the festive season, I wanted to give back to the community by supporting local food banks that provide essential meals to those in need. During the Sub-a-thon, every subscription and bit will extend the timer for my stream, and 100% of donations will go directly to the food bank. Your contributions, no matter how big or small, will help bring warmth and nourishment to families during the holidays. Thank you for supporting this cause and for being part of something truly meaningful.

“As part of the fundraiser, I live streamed on December 29 while I purchased the goods for the food banks. This gave everyone who has donated a chance to see exactly how their generosity is making a difference. The support has been overwhelming, and it’s amazing to see people across Northern Ireland coming together to help families in need this Christmas.”
