Gavin Whyte
Derry City have announced the signing of a Northern Ireland international.
The Candystripes have acquired the services of Gavin Whyte.
It is the third signing since the arrival of Tiernan Lynch as manager of Derry City, and second today.
The midfielder has agreed a three-year deal with the League of Ireland side.
Whyte, who can operate either on the right or through the middle, began a prolific career at Crusaders, where he spent four successful seasons.
Spells at Oxford United, Cardiff City and Hull followed, before the player joined Portsmouth ahead his move to Derry.
It’s no secret that Whyte, who also has 30 Northern Ireland caps in his collection, had plenty of offers elsewhere, and manager Lynch was delighted that the player had settled on a move to the Brandywell.
He said: “I don’t think I need to say too much about the type of player Gavin is, given that nearly every club in the country was chasing his signature.
“The plans that we put in front of him about what we want to do and where we want to go probably excited him the most.
“He has played at the highest level and is the type of attacking player that gets people excited, which is what playing at the Brandywell is all about.
“Gavin gives you that in abundance and our supporters will no doubt be looking forward to seeing him at the club.”
