Dom Thomas is looking forward to making an impact at the Brandywell, after signing a two-year deal at the club.
In a busy day of transfer activity, Thomas follows Robbie Benson and Carl Winchester as the newest Candystripes, as Tiernan Lynch comes ever closer to finalising his squad ahead of the new campaign.
The 28-year-old joins Derry City from Queen’s Park in the Scottish Championship where he was the club captain, making 23 appearances so far this season and chipping in with 7 goals.
“I'm just looking forward to getting in and training and getting games under my belt and starting the season well,” he said.
“Speaking with the manager and his ambitions for the club, they match mine as a player. I think as a player you want to play at the highest level and win things and have good memories of playing football. It's a short career so you want as many good memories and trophies and medals as you can get. Speaking to the manager, that's what this place is all about and that's what I want to do as a player.”
Thomas is also looking forward to linking up with some City players he already knows, having played with Mark Connolly with Dunfermline and Scottish duo Danny Mullen and Paul McMullan.
"You see a lot of players coming over here from Scotland and doing well, especially for Derry and they're the ones you check out results for and see how they're doing,” he said. “There's still a couple here obviously, the likes of Paul [Mullen] and Danny [McMullan] - boys who I've played with and played against.
“They're good people as well so they're the type of boys you want to share a dressing room with and they've done really well since coming here. I just want to join that and keep the success going for the club.
“Obviously the Scottish boys coming across but I think there's strong links between Glasgow and Derry and I think I will fit in well with the boys and the city.”
The attacking midfielder is now looking forward to getting stuck into pre-season training with his new team mates so he is ready to go when February 14 comes around.
“On Friday nights I've tuned into a few games back home and it's always been exciting,” he added. “For me it's a new challenge and sometimes it's good to get out of your comfort zone and you need to start afresh and impress people and that's what drives you on as a player.”
