Derry has been crowned one of Ireland’s most secure cities for preventing break-ins, according to a new study.

A recent survey conducted by Quote Devil has revealed alarming statistics about home security in Ireland.

Derry placed eighth in the study with the study taking into account the security measures that people have taken to protect their home from burglaries.

The security measures include burglar alarm systems, external CCTV, internal cameras, smart doorbells and deadbolt locks to name a few.

To find out, Quote Devil surveyed 1,000 Irish homeowners, revealing the security measures they use to protect their homes and shed light on the cities that are taking the most precautions.

Derry is highly security-conscious, with 57% of residents using window locks and motion-sensor lights. 46% have burglar alarm systems, and 39% use deadbolt locks. However, the city lags in newer technologies, with only 21% using external CCTV and 7% internal cameras.

Dundalk is the most safety-conscious city in Ireland when it comes to protecting homes from burglaries. A significant 77% of residents have installed window locks, the highest percentage among the ranked cities. Additionally, Dundalk leads in other security measures, with the most residents owning guard dogs (8%) and safes (27%).

Dublin ranks second when it comes to home security. 70% of residents have installed burglar alarm systems, the highest among the cities surveyed. Additionally, 69% have fitted deadbolt locks, and 77% have window locks.

Waterford also stands out for its commitment to home security. 54% of residents have installed burglar alarm systems, and 55% have fitted deadbolt locks to enhance their property’s protection. Additionally, 65% have secured their windows with locks, further boosting safety. When it comes to surveillance, 49% of homeowners have installed motion-sensor lights, helping to deter potential burglars and increase security around their homes.
