Mid Ulster District Council will open the programme for applications this week.
Mid Ulster District Council’s successful undergraduate placement programme will open for applications on Thursday, February 20.
The programme is designed to bring highly motivated undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds into the Council to work on projects that contribute to its strategic goals by helping to support a range of functions across the organisation.
Successful candidates are given a ‘hands-on’ opportunity to improve their analytical, business, and technical skills in a professional environment and will carry out research and provide support to services across the Council, based on their chosen specialism.
Opportunities within the 2025-26 programme extend to: Building Maintenance, Capital Planning, Development, Environmental Health, Environmental Services, Fleet Management, Health, Leisure and Wellbeing and Human Resources.
The placements are open for students who are enrolled in a full-time degree programme for the duration of the internship in a field or discipline related to the work of the Council, are available for a minimum placement duration of 12 months, are confident in the use of Microsoft Office applications and can demonstrate excellent communication skills.
Previous participants in the programme have spoken positively about their experience and the impact it had on their future career paths, saying, “I’ve gained many skills along the way and improved my employability skills”, and “I’ve developed many skills and gained valuable knowledge”.
Welcoming the return of the programme, Chair of the Council, Councillor Eugene McConnell said: “I am delighted to welcome the return of the Council’s rewarding Undergraduate Placement Programme. This initiative provides a fantastic opportunity for students to gain real-world experience while contributing fresh ideas and energy to our services and how we deliver them to our residents. Investing in young talent not only supports their development but also strengthens our workforce and future leadership.
“We look forward to welcoming and working with our new placement students and seeing the positive impact they will have.”
